Visiting teachers past present and future

We have had the most amazing opportunity at CTCT this year to benefit from wonderful visiting teacher activities.Jampa Genduns visit in July was truly inspirational as always. A weekend retreat on the Eight Verses for training the Mind offered us wonderful material to work with ongoing and the evening sessions on The Four Immeasurables , equanimity, love, compassion, and joy towards an immeasurable number of sentient beings was well attended by many. Jampa has been invited to return to CTCT next year and we hope he will confirm his acceptance to join us again soon.

Ven Lozang Yonten led a truly wonderful Chenrezig Retreat in August for eight most fortunate participants at the beautiful Niche Retreat Centre in Cygnet. As always the facility was warm, welcoming and comfortable..perfect to get down to the often hard business of Retreat…complimented with Kathy Rudolfs’ delicious cooking and warm heart. We hope to continue to host these retreats more often in next years program.

A Chenrezig Practice Group will commence on October 3 ongoing every first Sunday of the month…all particpants of past Chenrezig Retreats and everyone else also interested in familiarizing with the methods to develop great compassion to flourish in our everyday lives are welcomed to attend. For your reference please visit http://www.lamayeshe.com/index.php?sect=article&id=605

It was our greatest delight to host Ven Aileen Barry for a short weekend visit also in August. We enjoyed amazing tales of life working with inmates, and the immense benefit that is available to those imprisoned , often with life sentances by the Buddhist teachings and methods of meditation to assist in their situations. Most moving and quite heart breaking at times, but Ven Aileen always seemed to bring some wonderful warmth and humour to her every word in her endearing Irish accent.

CTCT were very happy to be able to offer donation to Liberation Prison Project ongoing works as a result of her visit and the kind ones that attended the luncheon at the Centre. Ven Aileen also assisted with the completion of the mid-year Meditation 101 Course

Whilst here Ven. Aileen recited 3 full rounds of the Sangata Sutra with dedications for CTCT to flourish and grow and all obstacles, especially around the visit of Dagri Rinpoche to Hobart in October, to be cleared and nonexistent. Please visit here for more recitation informationhttp://www.fpmt.org/teachers/zopa/advice/sanghatasutra.php

Dr Sonam Takchoe continues to offer CTCT his great generosity and excellent teachings, full of wisdom and compassion on Bodhichitta…we are now working with Chapter 8 of Shantidevas Guide to a Bodhisattvas Way of Life and this is our 3rd year of receiving the continuing commentary.

Mindfulness Meditation instruction and discussion is also a much appreciated aspect of our program with Dr Sonam Takchoe as he continues to inspire and encourage us along the path of a dedicated practitioner enhancing our well being and our practice day to day.

We are very pleased to advise that Sonam will continue with us into 2011 with commentary on Shantidevas Guide to a Bodhisattvas Way of Life.

Program October – December

Please visit www.chagtong.org for all Program details.

Check the Calendar tab in the Menu column. If you click on the dates in any given month chosen you will have access to further information of the topic for that day and often external links to further teachings ,readings and audio on the same topic or practice.

Hosting FPMTA National Meetings in Hobart

CTCT has the great honor to be hosting the bi-annual meetings of FPMTAustralia again. www.fpmta.org.au We previously hosted in 2008 using the Botanical Garden venue which was very successful. These meetings provide a platform for all Centre Directors, Spiritual Program Co-ordinators and Project Managers currently working in one of the many activities and Centres in Australia to come together to share in our support of each other, of Lama Zopa Rinpoches’ vast vision and the FPMT Organization in its works for benefiting sentient beings around the world. CTCT is just one of the 159 activities currently operating worldwide in 37 countries under the care and guidance of our Spiritual Director Lama Zopa Rinpoche and FPMT.

Meeting dates are October 23-24 and we hopefully anticipate approx 30 delegates visiting.

Teachings with Venerable Dagri Rinpoche

It is an extremely special time for us in October ! During the same time that we hare hosting the FPMTA meetings here we will also be blessed with a rare and precious opportunity to host Dagri Rinpoche in Hobart during his 1st Australian Tour.

A very special Lama whom is close to Lama Zopa Rinpoche and His Holiness the Dalia Lama .Rinpoche will stay with us for one week. During this time he will also attend and address our National Meeting on behalf of Lama Zopa Rinpoche.

We will be using the Auditorium at the Bahai Community Centre http://www.tasbcl.com.au/to host both Rinpoches’ teaching program and the FPMTA weekend meetings.

Rinpoche has kindly accepted CTCT request to offer teaching on Refuge accompanied with the opportunity to formally take refuge vows with a very great master.

We then will have the amazing opportunity to attend 2 evening sessions and 1 afternoon session of teachings on Bodhichitta…developing the good heart. ..great compassion. Rinpoche has advised he will be using Shantidevas text Guide to a Bodhisattvas way of Life - Chapter 1 The Awakening Mind. Please visit our website for further information about these teachings http://www.chagtong.org/Latest/teachings-with-dagri-rinpoche.html

Bookings can be made either via the website or Phone 6267 9203. A flyer is also attached to this email for you to share with others as extensively as you wish…we sincerely anticipate your help in spreading the information of this rare opportunity to many in the community, in Tasmania and beyond. We thank you very much in advance.

Another New Membership launch coming soon

CTCT will soon to be launching a new style membership, which will connect us to local and an international array of benefit and provide a crucial element to CTCTs’ ongoing and sustainable growth and development to better be able to serve you and offer benefit to the greater community.

Volunteer Grants

CTCT were successful in application for a Volunteer community grant in 2009. This grant has enabled CTCT to purchase equipment to assist in our day to day running of the Centre. The goods we were able to buy were a Laptop and software, Multifunction Printer, Office furniture: Bookcase, desk and Chair, whiteboard, and digital camera to capture all our activities for our Centre Photo gallery and a data projector so we can plan to incorporate all the amazing resources available in FPMT Online Learning Centre…for example : live webcasts of Lama Zopa Rinpoches Lamp of the Path Retreat as a feature of our programming . A most wonderful benefit for us to share.

On the move again- New venue needed for 2011

CTCT is looking for a suitable venue to run our weekly program from and expand our main area to facilitate other community outreach programs we are planning, utilizing Essential Education guidelines. Ideally it would be centrally located. Rooms that allow for an office space, kitchen and Shop/library area plus the main meeting room space , also ideally within a modest budget.

Close to public transport and parking is always beneficial. It could be just rooms within a bigger complex, a whole house, a commercial space ………….we can be as creative as we need and can transform easily a space into something that could suit our needs. If you can assist us in our search…please be in touch via email This email address is being protected from spambots.
